What Serena Bortone risks now

After the outbreak of the Scurati case, the arrival of the disciplinary proceedings and the clash between the Rai top management, questions are being asked about the fate of the journalist

RIMINI – What will happen… to Serena Bortone? This is the question that almost everyone is asking, the one about the fate of the journalist-presenter at the center of the ongoing clash between the editorial staff and the top management Rai, as well as among the Rai managers themselves, complete with the extension of the affair into the political and media hype. As is now known, the journalist elevated to the role of upright champion of freedom of opinion in public service information received a letter of disciplinary complaint from the company. She is accused of alleged “image damage” for mammaRai, guilty of a post published on her social profiles on April 20th, on the Scurati affair. The Rai communication on the matter limits itself to saying that “as per practice, in the dispute the journalist is asked for any justifications and clarifications”.

In essence, Bortone, at the moment, is only called to account for the statements entrusted to Facebook, in which she expressed notes of strong disappointment at having learned “with dismay , and by pure chance”, that the contract of the writer Antonio Scurati, and therefore his participation in the April 25th episode of the show “Chesarà…” had been cancelled. . And, the journalist explained, that she had not been able to “obtain plausible explanations” on the matter from the company.

EARLY CLOSURE OR CHANGE OF JACKET?
In recent days, after the controversy that arose over the Scurati case, which was also followed by a strike called by Usigrai, the trade union ‘traditional’ of the Rai journalists (which were not joined by the ‘colleagues’ who instead joined the competing new union UniRa), there were rumors about the fate of the journalist and the his show “CheSarà”. Among other things, Rai 3’s weekend talk show is quite recent, having only opened its doors last September. There are therefore those who take the early and definitive closure of the program in June for certain, such as the authoritative Repubblica, and those who instead believe that a voluntary farewell of the journalist-presenter to move to is more likely Mediaset. To strengthen this second thesis, it would have been Bortone’s participation in “Verissimo”, guest of Silvia Toffanin, to presenthis latest book from title “So sweet to you”.
THE MATCH IS STILL OPEN
From the latest developments, however, it seems clear that the Bortone-Scurati affair is far from over. If yesterday the words in the Rai Supervisory Commission of the Ad Roberto Sergio, with which he announced the disciplinary proceedings against the journalist, seemed to want to put a stop to the matter, today the distancing of the Rai President Marinella Soldi on this measure makes it completely clear that we are alone, if not at the beginning, at least in the second half of the match.

And the political developments also suggest that “the end” of the matter is still far away, with the request of the opposition (Pd-M5s-Iv-Azione-Avs) that the Rai supervisory commission, which met just yesterday, returns to the Scurati case, calling Serena Bortone herself and the director of Rai in-depth analysis, Paolo Corsini, to a hearing. For the opposition group leaders, in fact, it is necessary to “clarify” since “during the hearing of the Rai top management last night – they explain – a reconstruction of the facts emerged which was very distant from the known one without the Rai top management providing the necessary documentation to demonstrate the truthfulness than what they claimed”. So keep your eyes open on Viale Mazzini (& surroundings), for the next episode.
