Water more expensive in Claut (Pordenone), mayor Sturam threatens to resign

Alpine municipality of 950 inhabitants. The mayor: "They are taking away our last remaining possessions"

TRIESTE – “I cannot accept that the inhabitants of Claut and all the real mountains of our region have to bear the same costs, or even higher, than the users of Pordenone and the cities”. Thus in a note Gionata Sturam, mayor of Claut (Pordenone), a municipality with 950 inhabitants, intervenes on the intention of Hydrogea (controlled by the Municipality of Pordenone for the integrated water service) to ‘regularize’ the supply contracts of the water.

The new tariffs would be based on the number of people in the family, which would result, explains Sturam, in exponential increases which not only protect families, but would be “an affront and a drain on the sacrifices ” of people and businesses who decide to stay and live in the mountains.

STONES, WOODS AND WATER, THE RESOURCES OF THE MOUNTAIN

“The mountain has three resources – continues the mayor -: stones, and we see the problem of gravel and Varma; the forest, which was battered by Vaia; and finally water, which we generously distribute throughout the territory. Our Valley was important for the construction of dams and basins that defend the cities and irrigate the plains. Water is a good for everyone only for convenience, while the sacrifices and higher costs remain with the families of the mountains ”.

It’s true, Sturam continues, “many of our users don’t have meters, but they turn out to be superfluous because our aqueducts receive much more water than they put into the distribution network“. Without an equal distribution between burdens and benefits for the community, the mayor says he is ready to resign, leaving the Commissioner “with the task of expropriating even the last of the assets we have left from the mountain”, concludes the mayor.< /p>
