During the day, a note released on social media by the student collective Viscontirosa condemned the news reported by the media which “report alleged sexual relations between couples, events presented to the public as established facts. We want to clarifythat these facts reported by the press have been distorted, and in some cases, completely invented. These are personal relationships misrepresented and amplified without any respect for the truthand the privacy of individuals involved”.
MINISTER ROCCELLA: “EDUCATIONAL POVERTY INTERPELLATES FIRST OF ALL FAMILIES”
“The posting of the list of ‘trophy girls’ at the Visconti classical high school, in the heart of Rome, by some final year students, is a serious fact which demonstrates how episodes of pathetic chauvinism are still far from being eradicated – Eugenia Roccella, Minister for Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities wrote on her Facebook page – And, above all, it reveals the extent of the educational problem that we are facing. A problem that, both in identifying the causes and in seeking solutions, we cannot think of entrusting entirely to the school, much less to ‘society’ or the so-called ‘peer group’ (the peers with whom we interact relationships and comparisons in various ways). The increasingly evident and rampant educational poverty, even in contexts in which it appears difficult to talk about social degradation or hardship, must first of all consult families – continued the minister – It is the family primary place where children learn (or not learn) relationships between people, rights and duties, respect and freedom. And this teaching is the result of an education that is made of protection but also of responsibility. The abdication of this responsibility is a problem of our time, which affects everyone, regardless of the economic and social context. From Caivano to the historic center of Rome. The State is there and wants to be there, making tools and services available to families to exercise their role. But no one will ever be able to replace that role, and it is necessary that whoever holds it returns to exercising it”, concluded Roccella.
D’ELIA (PD): “EDUCATION IS ALWAYS MORE NECESSARY AFFECTIVITY IN SCHOOLS”
Cecilia D’Elia, Democratic Party senator and group leader in the seventh commission, school, public education and vice-president of the bicameral feminicide commission, commented as follows: “What happened at the Visconti high school in Rome is proof of how necessary the ’emotional education in schools. Faced with the ‘list of achievements’, the teachers, the principal and the school community have rightly chosen not to let it go as a joke, but to discuss what happened by giving the girls a say, to whom my solidarity goes. Talking, not pretending nothing is happening or simply punishing, because cultural change is necessary if we want to defeat sexism and violence, which we also made as a unit in November – when we approved the law against it the violence that extends precautionary measures – with an agenda that committed us to starting the discussion of the laws on affective education by January. But the path is stopped and can no longer remain so. The school needs support in this cultural work of promoting change and relationships based on respect and consensus”.
