VIDEO | Toti under house arrest, the lawyer: “The president is calm, convinced he can explain everything”

The lawyer: "There is no talk of resignation, he is suspended from his role and then we will see what happens. The process is still a work in progress, a precautionary measure is not enough"

GENOA – “The president is calm, convinced he can explain everything. The Region will continue to work even in his absence. From what we have been able to see up to this moment, these are all facts to which we can give an explanation as part of a legitimate administrative activity in the public interest”. Thus the lawyer Stefano Savi, defender of the president of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, arrested this morning for corruption, speaking to journalists in the lobby of the apartment where the governor lives in Genoa. “There’s no talk of resignation – continues the lawyer – he’s suspended from his role and then we’ll see what happens. The process is still a work in progress, a precautionary measure is not enough. For ethical reasons, we’ll see. Now we will read the documents and try to understand how to bring defensive elements in the best possible way”.

Savi, former defender of the former mayor Marta Vincenzi, confirms that Toti is “very serene, very calm. He wants to address the proceedings by explaining exactly how some facts can be interpreted”. And just as the lawyer speaks, the governor leaves the building, accompanied by his escort and the plainclothes Financial Police, who make him get into a car waiting for him outside. Before leaving, the governor waves one hand at the journalists from the window.
