A failed joke or another grammatical 'slip' by the Minister of Agriculture?

ROME – “I’m coming out: vote Meloni, as my advice”. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida on the sidelines of the closing demonstration of the Fratelli d’Italia electoral campaign last Saturday in Piazza del Popolo in Rome. The words were reportedby the Piazza Pulita report during this evening’s episode. The government representative is no stranger to controversial outbursts, many have criticized him for some questionable phrases, which were later downgraded to bad interpretations of his thoughts. Just think of “thank goodness there is drought in Sicily”. Last Saturday, to Lollobrigida’s response, the Piazza Pulita journalist replied: “But that’s not exactly what it means, minister…”

For Treccani, in fact, outing is a “public declaration with which someone reveals a person’s homosexuality without their consent”. It is true that the term can also be used, in a joking tone, as a public admission of a private fact. So will it just be a failed joke?
