ROME – Opposite demonstrations today in Rome, in Piazza Esquilino, in “Den’ Pobedy”, the “day of victory”, on the anniversary of the Soviet success over Nazis in the Second World War: first the critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrated, then his supporters. The events were held within a few hours of each other. In the first case the slogan was “a day of victory without Putin”; in the second, with Moscow’s army engaged in the conflict in Ukraine, Russian and Soviet flags waved.
