Baldi: "Confident we can prove the murder. My idea? She was killed immediately"

ROME – “We are awaiting the results of the autopsy, which should arrive within a few days. Of course, it is difficult because a lot of time has passed, but we are confident that we can identify something that will allow us to demonstrate what we think, that is, that Liliana was killed“. Thus, during a video interview given to Dire, Dr. Marina Baldi, forensic geneticist and consultant to Sergio Resinovich, the brother of Liliana Resinovich, the 63-year-old woman who disappeared in Trieste on 14 December 2021 and then found dead on January 5, 2022 in a forest, with her body in two garbage bags and two plastic bags around her head, in still mysterious circumstances. The investigations to date have not definitively established whether it was a suicide or a murder.

“Liliana’s body – continued the forensic geneticist – was badly treated from a criminalistics point of view and poorly preserved. But this has an explanation: the basic error, in reality, was upstream, because Liliana was considered suicidal, so it was not deemed necessary to carry out a series of tests and to use a series of precautions. This is very evident in the video of the discovery of her body , in which we clearly see that they didn’t even remotely think about murder. So we hope to be able to bring justice to her.”

But what idea did you have about the timing of Liliana’s death compared to the discovery of her lifeless body? “This is a big problem – Dr. Baldi replied to Dire – because it is said that Liliana was somewhere for 15 days and that she was killed a few hours before, but I don’t believe it. I think the body is been stored in the cold, perhaps in the trunk of a car, we remember that it is a place where there was snow a short distance away”. The forensic geneticist, therefore, believes that Liliana may have died immediately after her disappearance: “When she was found in the woods she was dressed in the same way she was seen in the videos (while walking, ed.) and she had breakfast in her gastric contents. For this reason, I honestly believe that she was killed immediately. We hope – Dr. Baldi finally concluded – to be able to explain all these particular elements”.
