ROME – “The flagship event of the Puccini celebrations will be held on 28 June in Lucca: a concert with maestro Riccardo Muti who will conduct the Cherubini orchestra”.

This was announced today by the Undersecretary of Culture, Gianmarco Mazzi, during a day at the Ministry of Culture dedicated to Giacomo Puccini, the 100th anniversary of his death.

“It will be a special formation – he added – because today many of the musicians who trained together with Muti are part of opera formations, including international ones. There will be a staff of 120 musicians who will perform Puccini’s repertoire. The event will be held at the historic walls, an iconic place in Lucca which will be set up in the theater. The singers who will perform that evening chosen by Muti are the sopranos Eleonora Buratto, Lidia Fridman and Mariangela Sicilia and the tenors Luciano Ganci. , Dmitry Korchak and Francesco Meli. This evening – said Mazzi – we believe it will leave its mark, many tickets have already been sold, we were surprised because they are selling all over the world. Pre-sales have just started and four have already been sold -five thousand tickets purchased from countries such as the USA and Australia. This event will be broadcast worldwide by Rai”.

Mazzi then explained that “as a ministry we strongly wanted this day of studies on Puccini, who is the composer I love most. He was an inspiration for many international artists of the more contemporary, more pop world. This is a year very important for the work and as a ministry we are working very hard”.

In addition to the event on June 28th in Lucca, another concert is planned to celebrate the recognition of the art of Italian opera singing as a World Heritage Site: “We are organizing a great event that will be held at Verona Arena on Friday evening 7 June. Maestro Muti will also be present to open it and the greatest singers of our times will be there – said the undersecretary – It is an exceptional institutional evening which will be broadcast live worldwide by Rai. The entire UNESCO Committee that gave the recognition will be present and at the moment the ambassadors of 60 countries have confirmed their presence. We have had a truly exceptional participation and at the moment around fifty countries will broadcast the evening which will be a source of pride for us and for Italy”.
