The events occurred after President Mattarella's visit to the university

ROME – Moments of tension recently at La Sapienza university. After the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, left the university the students staged an unexpected procession through the avenues of the faculty. A first close encounter between students and the police took place between the internal avenues when the students tried to send away the armored police vehicles which were already abandoning the university anyway. Then the procession went as far as Viale dell’Università where the students were confronted by the police in riot gear. The students who tried to reach the street were stopped by the police. No charge was made, but minutes of real hand-to-hand clash between the shields of the police and the demonstrators.
