GENOA – Andrea Orlando closes his electoral campaign in Genoa and on the stage of the Politeama theater, before the final speeches of this long electoral campaign, all the leaders of the Ligurian ‘broad field’ of the centre-left are rising: the secretary of the PD, Elly Schlein, the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, the leaders of Avs Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni, the secretary of the PSI, Enzo Maraio, the vice-secretary of Action, Elena Bonetti. After the usual snapshots, the leaders sat in the front row, with Schlein sitting next to Conte.
“In recent days I have seen first-hand the disastrous conditions of healthcare, the priority urgency of Liguria, with health workers forced to work shifts massacring, hospitals falling to pieces. And so are the infrastructures, the transportation. Here there was an outgoing ruling class that did not listen to these voices, but listened to those of some entrepreneur friend in the closed circle of some private, in a living room, some dinners of the Genoa high society, some yachts. Salvini said that ‘We have nothing to erase from the Toti system’, and instead we shout from here that that system is rotten, unhealthy and must be erased”.
This was stated by the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, speaking from the stage of the Teatro Politeama in Genoa strong>for the final rally of the center-left electoral campaign in support of the candidate president of the Liguria Region, Andrea Orlando.
Conte underlined “three negative aspects of that system that have compromised the Region: the entrepreneur friend who procures the political favor of the moment, is making unfair competition to all the other honest entrepreneurs; the politician who does the favor and gets his campaign financed, damages all of us politicians who campaign honestly; and then the illusion that the meeting of two private interests realizes the public interest”.
For the former prime minister “it is not like that, because it is not enough that two private interests are illegally intertwined: you have to go in emergency rooms, listening to young people who denounce the environmental devastation, hearing those who can’t make it to the end of the month, with 1 in 5 Ligurian citizens in absolute poverty”.
“If you listen to these voices and set up a transparent system of government, then you are guaranteed to be able to pursue the public interest. We asked Andrea Orlando for this system and this transparency, and he gave us all the guarantees – continued Conte – Let’s turn everything upside down Andrea, with clarity and confidence: from the day after elections we will start a daily transparent public debate throughout Liguria to listen to citizens, visit hospitals, take care of infrastructures. You deserve better politics and constant attention, we will always be with you and we will not distract our forces for friends, relatives and family.”
