ROME – The regional road to Cogne, between Chevril di Aymavilles and Epinel di Cogne, no longer exists in at least three points and making predictions about its reopening is impossible. Yesterday evening, the head of the national civil protection department, Fabrizio Curcio, who went up to Valle d’Aosta to take stock of the damage caused by the bad weather while meeting the regional council, spoke of at least a month’s wait. > Even the municipal road between the capital Veulla and Valnontey was largely eroded by the flood of the Grand-Evya torrent in the night between last Saturday and Sunday.

“Tomorrow we will do a joint inspection between various regional structures with the public works and agriculture departments and the presidency to define all the problems, including damage to rural infrastructures”, explains Valerio Segor, head of the Aosta Valley Civil Protection during the council’s press conference this morning. Meanwhile helicopter trips continue to evacuate the people left isolated in Cogne. In total, over 600 have already been brought to Aymavilles. Most of them are tourists. Many have returned home; a few dozen who decided to stop in Aosta taking advantage of the free rooms made available by Aosta Valley hoteliers thanks to the Adava-Federalberghi initiative. Some shelters were also cleared out. In Cogne, many hotels have decided to close for the next two or three weeks, waiting for news. Meanwhile, the work to restore the aqueduct continues and a first attempt will be made by this evening to put water back into the system. The water supply points remain active as well as the medical facility, available 24 hours a day.
