VIDEO | ‘Assaggi’, the Lazio food and wine exhibition, returns to Viterbo

From 18 to 20 May the third edition with more than 60 companies

ROME – Three days to be enjoyed as promised by Assaggi, the Lazio food and wine exhibition scheduled in Viterbo from 18 to 20 May. This third edition of the event dedicated to local delicacies features the presence of over 60 participating companies ready to exhibit their classic productions, but also the most innovative ones. This is how gourmets and professionals will taste the best of Lazio and Tuscia: from extra virgin olive oil to cured meats, from wine to cheeses, from pasta and baked goods to jams and hazelnuts, passing through the fruit and vegetables, meat, honey and herbal teas.

“Today is a beautiful day – said the president of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Tagliavanti, who hosted the presentation at the Temple of Hadrian – because this is a beautiful initiative that has many meanings, starting from the collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and that of Rieti Viterbo. Rome and Viterbo are both cities of the Popes. A bond that we must strengthen in view of the Jubilee highway of antiquity that invented tourism, which at the time was only religious. This great Jubilee event must be enriched with content, creating the conditions in which anyone who comes can also take an opportunity to get to know our cities and our excellences. The tasting is the test, an opportunity to try a new food, but also a new place. And around Rome there are magnificent places, like Viterbo, which also help Roman tourism”.

The intense weekend of the Show therefore also becomes an opportunity to increase tourist presences in the city of the Popes, generating an economic spin-off for hospitality businesses. The exhibition area is set up in the rooms of the Palazzo dei Papi, but Assaggi also extends into the adjacent spaces of the Research Center for the History of Upper Lazio, where the tastings are held guided tours and panels dedicated to oil and wine, and in the tent structure in Piazza San Lorenzo. Here there is a succession of meetings with prestigious guests, show cooking, book presentations, sensory workshops and talks organized in collaboration with Agro Camera. Again in Piazza San Lorenzo, this year too there will be space for educational activities for the little ones organized by Slow Food Viterbo and Tuscia.

“Assaggi is a project in which we believed from the first moment – explained Domenico Merlani, president of the Rieti Viterbo Chamber of Commerce– It was born from an idea that the chamber of commerce bodies have always pursued: investing on territorial excellence. Assaggi wants to strengthen the idea that Italy is a great country and can be a source of income for everyone. We like the combination of production and tourist activity because promoting companies also means making known what is there behind. And behind food and wine there is a world that is constantly changing

The ribbon cutting is scheduled forSaturday 18 May at 10.00 am with Max Mariola, chef and television host, while on the evening ofSunday 19 the closing with the show cooking and presentation of the book by Ruben Bondì, a young talent of Italian cuisine. In between, a series of appointments with chefs, entrepreneurs, specialized journalists and special projects.

“The role of the capital municipalities is increasingly that of offering quality and sustainable tourism. The trend of food and wine excellences in which we are investing fits into this context. The municipal administration of Viterbo – said the > mayor Chiara Fortini– has shared this vision with the other institutions and Assaggi is part of this strategy. Viterbo is growing double compared to the national average with more than 16% of tourist presences and even compared to the pre-Covid period we are at an increase of 23%. I am sure that this edition of Assaggi will be even more exciting”.

With Assaggi, organized by the Rieti Viterbo Chamber of Commerce with the contribution of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality of Viterbo and with the participation of the Lazio Region, Fuori Assaggi also returns, its off-the-show event offering collateral initiatives and insights into the agri-food sector of Lazio. For the occasion, from 15 to 20 May, local businesses are organizing – in Viterbo and in the centers of the province – a calendar of themed dinners and tastings, all focused on culture and the regional food and wine heritage.
