ROME – The votes of former MSI members for the post-communists. Gianni Alemanno, secretary of the Independence movement, launches an appeal to his voters: in the European elections vote for Marco Rizzo’s Sovereign Popular Democracy. No to abstentionism, the former mayor of Rome says today to “members and supporters”, go and vote: “We will use the ‘Manifesto for the sovereignty and rights of peoples’ promoted by Franco Cardini, which we signed together with the leaders of Democracy Sovereign Popular, as a point of reference for our electoral choices”. Rossobrown sovereignism.
The two have been flirting for some time, politically speaking. They shared tables, conferences and initiatives. They were one step away from appearing together on Cateno De Luca’s Libertà list: there was an agreement signed, then nothing happened. They say the three argued about the circumference of the symbols to put on the ballot. Now they aim to color the ballot paper for Strasbourg red-brown. As they will also do in Modena, where reality surpasses fantasy: a united list in support of the mayoral candidate Daniele Giovanardi, brother of the former minister.
For the European elections Alemanno has given up running on his own, it is almost impossible to collect signatures in view of June. An appeal to Sergio Mattarella was of no avail. The request for help that Rizzo launched to Giorgia Meloni was also unsuccessful. However, the former secretary of the Communist Party managed to present the People’s Sovereign Democracy list in the Center constituency. “Sovereignty no war“, he writes on the photos accompanying his candidacy as leader of the list.
Last Wednesday the two presented together the Manifesto for the sovereignty and rights of peoples, illustrated by the historian Franco Cardini, the analyst Stefano Orsi, the biologist Enzo Pennetta and the philosopher Andrea Zhok; everyone agrees in reiterating the “no to war”.
Today, starting from that document, Alemanno publicly sides with Marco Rizzo. “Faced with the law that prevented us from participating in the elections, we will not make the mistake of reacting with abstentionism – explains the secretary of Independence – we will vote for those lists and those candidates who explicitly declare themselves against war and the other follies of the European Union”. Therefore, he announces, “we will ask our members and supporters to go and vote, because by adhering to abstentionism we would end up contributing to the creeping delegitimization of democracy that can be felt throughout Europe. Instead, we will vote for all the lists and candidates who, in the various constituencies, explicitly declare themselves against the war in Ukraine and Palestineand against all the other madness of Brussels, starting with the European stability pact which requires Italy to cut 100 billion of euros in 7 years”.
The point of reference will be the Manifesto “signed together with the leaders of Sovereign People’s Democracy”, Rizzo and Toscano. The objective is “to bring out a political front against Italy’s subjection to the European Union”.
