ROME – With the cry of “attention bear” the councilor of the autonomous province of Trento and regional councilor of Trentino-Alto Adige, Claudio Cia, reported the sighting of a big bear in the streets of Malé, a small village in the province of Trento. In the video, published on Facebook, the animal’s run between parked cars is filmed.
“Around 2am – we read in the post – a bear was wandering around the town center of Malé, while the town was celebrating. There was life everywhere: live music, stalls and many kids on the streets.” And Cia added: “Tell this to the armchair animal rights activists:outside its habitat, the bear is a danger, a lethal power. Under its soft fur and cute little face, the bear remains a predator ferocious”.
The clip of just under a minute has sparked controversy and discussions between those who express fear and those who are against those who describe the story as an invasion of the ‘field’ by the bear. And there are also those who point out that, at 2 am, the town was almost entirely deserted. However, this is the second sighting in a few days in the Valle del Sole. During the counting for the European elections, another specimen approached the polling station of Bozzana, a hamlet of the municipality of Caldes.
The municipality of Malé, with a statement from the council, is now asking for “urgent and decisive interventions in the situation” to “prevent painful events from happening in the future and dramatic”. Just a year ago, the case of Jj4 and the attack on Andrea Papi, the 23-year-old runner who died in the woods of the Valle del Sole.

“First of all – we read – civil protection operators must be made safe immediately, equipping them at least with anti-bear spray to be able to act safely“.
As reported by Il Fatto Quotidiano, the International Animal Protection Organization (Oipa) responded to the provincial councilor by underlining that “the councillor, supporter of the Trentino law which provides for the culling of up to eight bears a year, probably does not consider how much the lack of adequate prevention measures to ensure the safety of residents, hikers and the animals themselves can cause trespassing of wildlife in inhabited centers”.
