ROME – “The rejection of other people’s opinions, and especially that of journalists, is similar to dictatorship”. Roberto Vecchioni did not mince his words when, in last night’s episode of DiMartedì on La7, he criticized Giorgia Meloni, commenting on the prime minister’s attitude in these last days of the campaign electoral.
The singer-songwriter then defined Meloni as “popular and populist”: “Popular is someone who is known and loved by his people, populist means that he uses. Like a musician he uses an instrument, the populist uses the people”. And when pressed, he added: “You should be the leader of a nation thinking about other parties. You will certainly put the demands of your own party first, but there is something called opposition which is not made up of idiots and idiots. Every now and then they need to be listened to.”
Already last March, again on DiMartedì, Vecchioni had commented: “Our politicians should go away, they are not changing anything because they have no power to change”.
