ROME – King Charles III’s banknotes are now in circulation. The Bank of England announced this in an official note where it explains that it is still possible to use banknotes depicting the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The approach “is in line with Royal Household guidelines to minimize the environmental and financial impact of this change” and “this means that the public will start to see the new King Charles III banknotes very gradually”.
Apart from the new monarch, the design of the banknotes has remained the same: the £5 note features the politician Sir Winston Churchill, the £10 note features the author Jane Austen, the The £20 note features the artist JMW Turner and finally the £50 features the scientist Alan Turing.
Through the Bank of England, citizens will be able to exchange their old banknotes for new ones, but with a limit of 300 pounds per person.
