Ultra-fast fibre, new Open Fiber-Ultranet agreement
Focus on the development of synergies in the use of existing network infrastructures, in support of the 1 Giga Italy plan created with Pnrr funds
NAPLES – The collaboration between Open Fiber and Ultranet, in light of the good results achieved, is renewed by focusing on the development of synergies in the use of existing network infrastructures, in support of the 1 Giga Italy plan created with Pnrr funds. The agreement will allow us to accelerate the availability of the ultra-fast network in the territories, allowing rapid interventions to reduce the digital divide and facilitate access to essential and indispensable services. Citizens who will be reached by the Ftth (Fiber to the Home) network will thus be able to take advantage of the innovative services offered by new technologies directly in their homes: remote working, online teaching, public administration services, telemedicine, home automation and entertainment will be enjoyable without interruptions or slowdowns.
“ALWAYS ATTENTIVE TO VIRTUOUS COLLABORATIONS”
The agreement for the reuse of existing infrastructure is part of a broader plan of collaborations that will allow Open Fiber to further accelerate the development of the network built entirely in optical fibre, in particular in the most difficult to reach areas of the country. “The primary objective of Open Fiber is to create a network infrastructure capable of bringing ultra-fast connectivity to homes, companies and Italian public administration offices“. Thus Nicola Grassi, Technology Director of Open Fiber, who adds: “For this reason we are always attentive to possible virtuous collaborations, which create value for the actors involved and guarantee citizens that they can be reached as soon as possible by FTTH and therefore by advanced digital services , which only this technology makes possible”.
Open Fiber was created with the aim of guaranteeing coverage of the main Italian cities and the connection of rural areas and industrial areas through an ultra-broadband fiber network. With over 13.5 million FTTH real estate units on the market, Open Fiber is the main Italian fiber optic operator and among the leaders in Europe.

Ultranet is the HGM spa Group company whose objective is the implementation of fiber infrastructure, and has been active as a TLC operator registered with the ROC since 2018. “Ultranet has a network of over 12 thousand km of cables and cable ducts and provides dark fiber infrastructure with a widespread presence on over 20% of the Italian population and aims to increase its presence in the next three years to reach over 20 million Italian citizens. The Ultranet network already connects metropolitan areas, the industrial districts, the islands and coastal ridges, the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic“. These are the words of Giulia Sangiovanni, Chief Operation Officer of Ultranet, who then recalls how Ultranet “has developed proprietary software focused on the Data Collection & Analysis of Industrial Districts, the primary engine of the Italian industrial system. Ultranet has the objective of covering by the end of 2027, with fiber optic infrastructure (Ftto) in over 1,500 industrial districts throughout Italy”.
