Ukraine, Lavrov dictates the conditions for the negotiation: “Possible only if NATO stops the supplies of weapons”

The Russian Foreign Minister's message to the West: "Political solution to the conflict if you stop flooding Kiev with weapons"

ROME – While the debate is open in Europe and the United States on the lifting of limits on the use of weapons sent to Ukraine, the “ultimatum” comes from Russia: if the West stops supplying Kiev with weapons it will become possible to “accelerate” a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this in an interview with the Novosti news agency.

“In theory yes” in fact the minister responded to the newspaper’s reporters’ question on the hypothesis of a correlation between an end to deliveries by NATO and a negotiation that will put an end to the fighting. Lavrov added: “To do this, it is necessary for the West to stop flooding Ukraine with weapons and for Kiev to stop hostilities.” According to the minister, “the sooner this happens, the sooner a political solution will begin”.
