BOLOGNA – Elena Cecchettin has chosen not to go to court to listen live to the statements of Filippo Turetta, who a year ago, on November 11, 2023, killed her sister Giulia. She has been sick for 11 months, she hasn’t slept, she has nightmares, and she has to “take care of herself”. She explains it on social media, in a long message entrusted to an Instagram story. Being in court, he says, would have been “enormous stress” and would have meant “reliving everything I felt in November last year.”
This is the full message: “Today I will not be present in court, not out of disinterest but because taking care of myself. I have been having nightmares for over 11 months, 11 months that my sleep has been non-existent and restless. My mental health and especially my physical health have suffered. I have lost count of the number of medical visits I have had to make in the last year. I will follow up remotely also through lawyers, however I will not participate. It would be a source of enormous stress for me and I would have to relive everything I felt in November of last year. I am simply not capable of it”.
And again: “I want to share this because I think it is right to protect ourselves when we need it. I am human and like everyone I am not invincible. Maximum solidarity with the people who have been close to us and have taken care of Giulia in these months, thank you for taking care of her too”.
