‘Too blue’, the long-awaited debut film by Filippo Barbagallo: the interview

At the center of the film is Dario, a twenty-five year old clinging to his adolescent balance. From May 9th at the cinema

ROME – “I wanted it to be like a beer. Light, you gulp it down in an instant and you feel like saying: ‘Oh, in the end it’s not so bad today'”. And it’s exactly like this: ‘Too Blue’ makes you feel good, like a summer evening in the company of your old friends. It is Filippo Barbagallo’s debut film, released in theaters on May 9th with Vision Distribution. Barbagallo, here also screenwriter and protagonist, tells of Dario, a twenty-five year old clinging to his balance as a teenager. He still lives at home with his parents (Valerio Mastandrea and Valeria Milillo) and has the same group of friends from high school. When in the torrid Roman August he starts dating first with Caterina (Alice Benvenuti), a girl he meets by chance, and then with Lara (Martina Gatti), the ‘unattainable’ girl who he has always loved, must choose whether to stay in his comfort zone or finally let go. ‘Too Blue’ is a story about the courage to make choices, to change, to leave the comfort zone and take that leap into the void that is so scary. But that leap could change the lives of each of us. Just like what happened to the young director with this film. Filippo Barbagallo was born in Rome in 1995, he worked as assistant director on the films ‘Tito and the Aliens’ by Paola Randi and ‘Ride’ by Valerio Mastandrea (2018). He graduated in screenwriting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and it was here that he started thinking about ‘Too blue’. It might remind you of Nanni Moretti or Gianni Di Gregorio (supervisor of the project), but Barbagallo decided to throw himself in, to find his own voice and he succeeded.
