From the poll market to the Ustica massacre: appointment on Rai 3 at 8.55pm

ROME – An exclusive investigation into the poll market in Italy: who are the bosses, what relationships do they have with the parties, what secrets do they hide, what conflicts of interest do they work with? “The lords of the polls” by Lorenzo Vendemiale and Carlo Tecce – broadcast on Sunday 26 May at 8.55pm on Rai 3 for “Report” with Sigfrido Ranucci – demonstrates for the first time a journalistic report demonstrating with unpublished documents how polls work in Italy and as they often become an instrument of propaganda and manipulation of public opinion. Focus, in particular, on the recent regional elections of Sardinia and Abruzzo, on the upcoming European elections and on the exit polls on the night of the polls.

We continue with “The V scenario” by Luca Chianca with the collaboration of Alessia Marzi and the consultancy of Claudio Gatti: on 27 June 1980 the DC9 Itavia 870 plane with 81 people on board it leaves from Bologna airport almost two hours late, heading towards Palermo. After 8.59pm the plane disappeared from radar, sinking in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Today, after 44 years, there are 19 sentences. While for the criminal ones the causes of the disaster remain essentially mysterious, the civil sentences confirm a war scenario in the Italian skies above Ustica, stating that it was one or more missiles that shot down the DC9. Over the years, evidence has been sought on the Italian, American, Libyan and French tracks and what was the result? The judiciary was unable to get anything out of the hole and that of Ustica remained a mystery.

“Report” decided to change its approach, investigating whether in the history of aviation it had ever happened that a civilian aircraft was the target of an aerial ambush and it turned out that the only country in the world involved in operations of this nature is Israel. A detailed investigation that proposes a new scenario through unpublished testimonies from members of the Israeli secret services, commanders and generals of the military aviation of the State of Israel who, around the 1980s, carried out the most astonishing secret operations in the history of the air force. The shooting down of the DC9 could be part of a tragic operational error, which occurred to block the supply of enriched uranium that France was sending with civilian planes to Iraq to develop Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program, an existential threat to the State of Israel.
In closing, “Rizza le antennas” by Lucina Paternesi with the collaboration of Roberto Persia. It should have revolutionized our lives, but six years after the auction that assigned the frequencies closed, what happened to 5G? While in Sweden the new technology has become part of the country’s economy, thanks to millionaire investments by telephone companies, in Italy the Government has decided that for 5G to take off, the limits of exposure to electromagnetic fields must be raised, from 6 to 15 V/m. A nice favor to the telephone companies who, in 2018, paid over 6.5 billion euros to the State to grab the frequencies. The raising of the limits seems to have a precise objective: to save 4 billion for telephone operators who, otherwise, would have been forced to make a greater outlay for the modernization of the systems. This provision is only the latest of the many regulatory interventions which, in recent years, in the name of simplification, has paved the way for telecommunications companies. From the elimination of landscape restrictions for the installation of pylons to the maximum limit of 800 euros for the occupation of public land, telephone companies have literally taken the territories by storm. Only mayors, citizens and territories are paying the price. Who benefits from all this simplification?
