ROME – Among the most iconic scenes in world cinema there is certainly the one in which Jack hugs Rose from behind and she screams “I’m flying” from the bow. And then I kiss. And we are all in tears. The blame lies entirely with ‘Titanic’ and James Cameron, who marked a point of no return: since that day the whole world has dreamed of being in Kate Winslet’s place to touch Leonardo DiCaprio’s lips. But the one who let Jack sink to the bottom of the icy ocean (yes, because on that subspecies of raft there was definitely another place) was the one who killed off the romance (without mercy, let’s say it). Putting this inevitable resentment aside for a moment, Winslet told Vanity Fair USA that kissing DiCaprio was a nightmare. Shattered heart between 3,2,1.
While we were sobbing watching that scene while eating popcorn, in reality filming it was a real nightmare. “We kept kissing, I was wearing a lot of make-up and so was he. I had to make sure that both of our make-up didn’t get ruined. But at the end of each take the make-up was a disaster. The make-up artists and hairdressers couldn’t reach us because we shot that scene in a practically inaccessible point of the ship. Without forgetting that I hit my knee on the railing several times and I needed several takes to obtain the desired result. Meanwhile, “Leo couldn’t stop laughing, and James Cameron was looking for the right light in the sunsets and so we were constantly moving.”
It’s still a nightmare for Winslet today. “I can’t get on a ship without being asked to do the scene again. It drives me crazy,” the actress said.
