NAPLES – The XVI edition of Pharmexpo, the largest pharmaceutical industry exhibition in Central and Southern Italy, organized by Progecta in collaboration with the Order of Pharmacists and Federfarma, was inaugurated today at the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples. This year, over 10,000 pharmacists are expected at the fair and 265 exhibitors are present, for an industry, the pharmaceutical one, which is worth approximately 51 billion euros, 11 billion more than in 2021.
The event, scheduled until October 27, was opened by a conference, moderated by Fabrizio Cantella, director of Progecta, attended by Valeria Fascione, Councilor for Innovation of the Campania Region, Vincenzo Santagada, Councilor for Health of the Municipality of Naples and President of the Order of Pharmacists of the Province of Naples, Ugo Trama, Head of Drug Policy and Devices of the General Directorate of Health of the Campania Region, Riccardo Iorio, President of Federfarma Naples, and Pierluigi Petrone, President of Assoram, Vice President of Farmindustria and of the Industrial Union of Naples.
“The pharmaceutical sector – Fascione said – is one of the most important sectors in Campania, there are large pharmaceutical companies that have invested here, also in research and innovation. The Region is alongside Pharmexpo, a community that is increasingly important also for regional health policies”.
Santagada, bringing the mayor’s greetings Gaetano Manfredi, underlined how the city of Naples is “investing heavily in the trade fair offering. We have a new project to revive the Mostra d’Oltremare, one of the most important centers of our city. We need to relaunch it, reorganize it. In 2025 there will be important changes”. For the Order of Pharmacists, Pharmexpo is “an important event, which involves not only the stakeholders of the territory, but professionals and companies from all over the country. This event – continued Santagada – must grow even more, with the aim of becoming a pole of attraction for the entire Mediterranean”.
Un’analisi ha riguardato anche il numero di persone che choose not to seek treatment, which is now constantly increasing. “Today – said Santagada – one in four elderly people gives up treatment. They do so for various reasons, including logistics”. On this point, Trama explained: “In a region like Campania, which can often see people abandoning treatment due to critical socio-economic issues, having more health workers who bring you back a correct health service is an added value”. Therefore, it is important to recognize “the centrality of the pharmacist in the national health system: we are no longer just talking about a drug professional – Trama specified -, but about a healthcare worker integrated into a multidisciplinary team who can make a greater contribution to healthcare”.
“The pharmacy is capillary: in Naples and its province alone – Iorio highlighted – we are at 822 pharmacies, so it is easy to understand that we are on every street corner and that every citizen at least once a month enters a pharmacy. This makes you understand the importance of our role and also what we can communicate to people”.
