The sportsmen in Paris, the others at the seaside with swimming pool and barbecue: here is the ‘programme’ of summer 2024

Paris is the most searched city in the world on Airbnb this summer, given the presence of the Olympics and Paralympics. In Italy, Orbetello, Porto Rotondo and Bari are strong

ROME – Airbnb has revealed trends for summer travel. Whether it’s cheering on your team, or spending time with friends in one of the more ‘sporty’ category accommodations on the platform (such as spaces to play or on the water), summer 2024 promises to be in the name of sport and movement.

A SUMMER OF SPORT

As the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Euro 2024 approach, guests from around the world are hunting for a front row seat. Paris is the most searched city worldwide on Airbnb for this summer, with other French race venue cities such as Lille, Versailles and Lyon being trending. Ad views for the Games period were on average 11 times higher in and around French host cities compared to last year. In Germany, however, with the European Football Championships kicking off at ten venues in June, three of the host cities – Dortmund, Munich and Stuttgart – have emerged as trending destinations this summer for guests from around the world.

ITALIANS SEEK OUTDOOR SPACES AND HOLIDAYS BY THE SEA SEA

In Italy, however, the desire for the sea is growing, with peaks of interest in the seaside destinations of Orbetello, Porto Rotondo and Bari, but also for ‘treasures’ outside the usual itineraries such as Pittulongu and Siniscola. This summer, then, there will be no shortage of moments in the open air for Italian families: searches for services such as swimming pools and barbecues have increased by 30%. According to a recent survey, more than half of Italian guests say that the possibility of staying with the whole family in one place is a decisive factor for booking. And 67% say that amenities such as kitchens, spaces to work andgardensare crucial when deciding where to stay.
