The search continues for the three boys missing in Friuli, overwhelmed by the flood of the Natisone river. During the night, a telephone signal was picked up

BOLOGNA – The search began again at dawn for the three boys missing yesterday afternoon in the Natisone river, in Premariacco, in the province of Udine. They continued into the night, but then at a certain point they were suspended while waiting to be able to descend or ascend the river. Civil Protection helicopters and drones are at work. “These are decisive hours“, writes the mayor of Premariacco, Michele De Sabata, in a post on Facebook, posting a photo of the fire brigade vehicles. At a certain point during the night, the telephone signal of one of the missing boys was recorded. In fact, the mayor explains: “The array of vehicles has been sifting through the Premariacco gorge towards Paderno since the first light of dawn. During the night, a cell phone signal was detected. /strong>”.

WHO ARE THE MISSING

The missing are Patrizia Cormos, a 21-year-old resident in Friuli, a 23-year-old friend of hers of Romanian origins, Bianca Doros, and the latter’s boyfriend, Romanian 25 years old. The three apparently had arrived at the river by car: a BMW with a Romanian license plate was spotted on the bank. They would have arrived around 1.20pm at the Roman Bridge in Premariacco. The first alert would have been triggered as early as 1.35pm, when the driver of a municipal school bus saw them in the river and raised the alarm. The rescuers arrive at 1.50pm, but the boys are already knee-deep in water.

HOW THE TRAGEDY HAPPENED

The three boys were stuck on a kind of gravel island, but the river level rose too quickly and they were unable to return to the bank. In the end the three boys were dragged by the flood wave. Shortly before, the three boys are seen holding each other tightly, probably in an attempt to hold on and resist the force of the water. The attempts made by the firefighters to save them (lowering a rope and also a ladder) were unsuccessful.

THE RESEARCH

The hope of finding the three boys alive is very tenuous, both due to the extremely violent force of the river and the freezing water in the night. They may have been stuck in some bend in the waterway. The Natisone is often subject to floods and its characteristic is precisely that of filling up very quickly. But then the water drops just as quickly. Which is why the boys’ bodies will probably be found.
