ROME – The first images of the second season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ have been revealed at the Amazon Upfront in New York. The new 8 episodes introduce the legendary villain of J.R.R. Tolkien, Sauron, as he casts his shadow over the Second Age of Middle-earth.
The debut teaser trailer takes viewers on an action-packed journey to the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien, and reveals Sauron’s growing evil presence as he continues his vengeful quest for absolute power. In addition to showcasing the return of many fan-favorite characters – including Galadriel, Elrond, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor – these first images reveal the long-awaited creation of more Rings.
In the second season Sauron is back. Driven out by Galadriel, without army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to subjugate all the peoples of Middle-earth to his left will. Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, this new chapter immerses even the most beloved and vulnerable characters in a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of the abyss. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, sorcerers and Furfoots, while friendships crack and kingdoms begin to fall apart, the forces of good will fight ever more valiantly to cling to what matters most to them, being there for each other.
This epic drama takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R.’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien, and takes viewers to a distant era where great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest of threads, and the greatest villain ever came out from Tolkien’s pen threatened to plunge the whole world into darkness. Starting from a moment of relative peace, the series follows a group of characters, some already known, others new, as they prepare to face the feared return of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the most extreme places on the map, these kingdoms and characters will build a legacy that will live on far beyond their time.
‘The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power’ is available from August 29on Prime Video (in over 240 countries and territories).
