ROME – These are hours of anguish for the 48 families of the policemen, carabinieri and financiers who were evicted from Montespaccato to Rome in September. These are public housing social housing units that belong to the Boccea Management Immobiliare srl company in Montespaccato. The families, who in some cases have disabled relatives present at home, are waiting to know their fate and denounce the total immobility that has existed in their story: whilein eight no provision has arrived for months to protect them, recently sentences of eviction have begun to arrive from the Civil Court of Rome. A sit-in protest promoted by the Asia USB tenants’ union could soon be held in front of the municipality of Rome and the Ministry of Infrastructure. Meanwhile, the news is circulating among the tenants that the Police Commissioner’s brother also lives in one of the apartments for which eviction is scheduled: “Who knows if he too has been evicted?”.

THE QUESTION FROM FORZA ITALIA

Forza Italia senator Claudio Fazzone presented a question to the ministers of Justice, Infrastructure and Transport on 16 May: “It appears necessary and cannot be postponed that the recipients of housing have the possibility to exercise the right of pre-emptionand redeem the assigned properties, according to sector regulations, or alternatively provide, upon expiry of the contracts, an indefinite extension ope legis, or that in a similar case the financial contribution and the right to surface”.

“FROM SALVINI PROMISES, BUT NO PROVISION”

“Despite 8 months having passed since Minister Salvini’s reassurances – continues Fazzone in the question – no measure has so far been undertakento protect the public and the public interests involved in the numerous families of State servants and the implementing entity disregards State regulations, in this case law 170 of 2023…And continues obstinately in requesting a 50 percent employment allowance, further burdening on the small incomes of the tenants”.

THE SENTENCES OF EVICTION

The senator also points out that “the same situation occurs at the Civil Court of Rome, section IV, which, instead of recognizing the extension of the contracts, issues sentences condemning eviction, also condemning to the litigation costs; the company has revealed, through its lawyers, that it wishes to proceed with the franchisement of the land, with clear intentions of circumventing the constraint of the maximum transfer price, as it is public social housing; in light of the clear violation of the law, of the inertia of the Prefecture, indicated by Minister Salvini as the body responsible for resolving the matter; the latter does not declare a housing emergency for the numerous families involved in the release procedure of housing, and does not protect the disabilities of members of the families of the police force”.

DO YOU NEED A SPECIFIC COMMISSIONER?

The question asks “what initiatives, within their competence, the ministers intend to implement in order to avoid evictions of the families involved”. Also for example whether it is not “necessary to appoint an ad acta commissioner, as well as to adopt urgent regulatory initiatives to introduce provisions on the right of pre-emption and redemption for the assignees of housing built following public contributions in matter of subsidized residential construction”.
In the judgment the Ministry of Infrastructure requested the intervention of the State Attorney General in the eviction procedures pending at the sixth section of the civil court of Rome, butthe 48 families, with some disabled people present in the homes, they experience hours of anguish.

THE SIT-IN IN PROTEST AND THE BROTHER OF THE POLICE OFFICER

There is talk of an imminent sit-in protest promoted by the tenants’ union Asia usb in front of the municipality of Rome and the Ministry of Infrastructure. “The prefect does not intervene and the police commissioner of Rome must grant the public force to carry out our evictions”, declares a tenant to Dire. “The police commissioner’s brother is also in these apartments, who knows if he was also evicted?” he asks with composed facade irony.

“There have been parliamentary questions, promises and the judges, instead of extending the contract, issue an eviction sentence with costs. But the bodies in charge, the Municipality of Rome, the Lazio Region, the Ministry of Infrastructure, why don’t they take a measure The company is a private company and is in charge of a public service because they are Public Buildings and they are not the owners of the surface property”.
In other, much less serious situations, the Municipality has made the agreement lapseand manages the accommodation, against these – concludes the policeman who risks losing his house shortly – no measures, but only silence. It’s absurd, they abandoned us”.
