TRIESTE – The Mountain Project carried out in recent years by the Teatro Verdi of Pordenone was born and developed to promote attention to the mountains and share reflections on the problems from which the High Lands suffer: from the consequences of ongoing climate change to the phenomenon of depopulation and abandonment of life at altitude.
In pursuing these objectives, Verdi has found a fundamental partner in the Italian Alpine Club, already sharing cultural and scientific in-depth initiatives in the past. The strategic and planning upgrade was presented today, with the birth of a real festival, the first of its kind at a national level, the ‘Montagna Teatro Festival’, which through shows , new dramaturgy, meetings, conferences, literature wants to concretely support the growth of resilient communities and contribute to the revitalization of the valleys and mountain communities of the province of Pordenone. The collaboration between Teatro Verdi and Cai Nazionale was made official with the signing of a specific agreement.
“Renewing and increasing our summer programming in the Pordenone valleys means concretely bringing our stage to high altitude – explains the president of Verdi, Giovanni Lessio – a tangible sign of attention and closeness towards those who live in those mountains, but also a way to bring the public from the plains to the mountains. The time was ripe to reap the fruits of the commitment of these years and face, together with the CAI, the construction of an ambitious project such as the launch of the first Mountain Theater festival in Italy.” .
The collaboration “that we are carrying out with the Teatro Verdi of Pordenone is the result of a new attention of the Italian Alpine Club for the world of theatrical entertainment, which we intend to develop as much as possible”, states Angelo Schena, member of the Committee central management of the CAI. “After the dramaturgy competition ‘Beyond the clouds’ and the series of informative and scientific meetings on the mountain territories ‘R-Evolution /Green’, the next step – he continues – will be to create afestival< strong>theatrical of national importance linked to the mountains: it will be a great challenge, original, stimulating and engaging”.
Bringing theater to the mountains “and the themes dear to the mountains to the theater is a very concrete homage to those who continue to live in the mountains and to those who administer it, explained the Minister for Relations with the parliament, Luca Ciriani who spoke of “a true pilot project that embraces the new trends of more sustainable and niche tourism, as well as representing an important step in view of the candidacy of Pordenone Capital of Culture 2027”.
The zero edition of the festival includes summer programming (all free) in the Pordenone valleys and at the Verdi – between the end of June and the end of July, and a winter itinerary at the theatre. strong> The ‘Beyond the Clouds’ Competition stands out, absolutely the only Italian-level contest for unpublished theatrical texts on the Mountains, now in its second edition this year.
An absolute novelty this year is the co-production of the show based on the winning text with a regional theater company, Bonawentura-Teatro Miela of Trieste, which will see the current artistic director involved in directing del Miela, the author and theater director Massimo Navone. In the winter phase of the festival – on stage at the Verdi – the R-Evolution Green scientific in-depth meetings, the ‘Concert for the Mountains’ in December, book presentations and a conference which will benefit from the partnership of the University of Udine.
