ROME – Saving Italy’s demographic future. This is the objective of the IV Edition of the General States of Natality, scheduled for next 9 and 10 May at the Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome. To talk about how many children we have or don’t have and what can be done to improve the terrible situation in the Bel Paese (in 2023 births were, at an all-time low, around 379 thousand and in 2050 they would even drop to to 350 thousand) there will be politicians, journalists, students, influencers and actors, and last but not least Pope Francis.
And there are those who are already ready to organize a ‘counterprogramming’ to the two days. Like the feminist blog ‘thePeriod’ which writes on its social channels: “Here we go again. This year too the ‘General States of Natality’ offer a disarming spectacle on women’s reproductive rights, starting from guests chosen for the program of the event which will be held in Rome from 9 to 10 May We are certain that we can do better without the Pope, the anti-abortionists, Pino di Mare outside and Lorella Cuccarini see to talk about the birth rate and reproductive rights – because this is the topic – in a secular way and without priests in the pants Do our rights need other voices, other narratives?”.
The first day, Thursday 9 May, will be introduced by institutional greetings from the Minister for the family, birth rate and equal opportunities, Eugenia Roccella, from the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara(video message), the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the National President of the Family Forum Adriano Bordignon and Jessica Barcella strong>, a precarious freelancer mother, who will launch the topic of family-work conciliation when you don’t have adequate protection. Pope Francis will participate in the second day scheduled for Friday 10 May.
Gigi De Palo, President of the Birth Foundation: “Thanks to the Holy Father for having accepted yet another once again our invitation to the General States of Birth. This year too we will try to put the demographic emergency at the center of public attention, but it is necessary to move from analysis to synthesis; the time has come to go beyond words, we cannot stop to comment on the data, but we must move on to concreteness, which we ask first and foremost from politics, seeking together far-sighted solutions to a problem that puts the country’s sustainability at risk. This edition is dedicated to young people, with them and for them we will talk about the future. It’s about convincing young people to have children, but about creating the political conditions so that they can realize their work and family dreams.” .
Great space, in this edition, for young people from schools: over a thousand those present in the room over the two days and hundreds more classes connected from various Italian regions to make their contribution. Students will be the protagonists of some significant moments scheduled for SGDN 2024: the interview with the central director of Istat, the demographer Sabrina Prati (on 9 May), the discussion with the Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti (on 10 May) and that with ten leaders of the most important Italian companies (on 10 May).
The first day is also the opportunity for a dialogue with the main exponents of the political world on the topic of birth rates, with a panel in which the main party leaders ensured their participation, including: Maria Elena Boschi (Italia Viva ), Carlo Calenda (Action), Giuseppe Conte (5 Star Movement), Matteo Salvini (Lega), Elly Schlein strong> (Democratic Party) and Antonio Tajani (Forza Italia).
Following, a comparison between some of the protagonists of the media world: the Director General of RAI Giampaolo Rossi,< /strong> the director of Avvenire Marco Girardo, the presenter Massimo Giletti, Gaia Tortora Deputy director of TG La7, the journalist Maria Latella and the CEO of Lifeed Riccarda Zezza.
The first day will close in the evening, with the theater show by Alessandro D’Avenia, “Resisti, heart: our odyssey at the theatre”.
On Friday 10 May, the fourth edition of the General States of Natality will close with the dialogue of young influencers, including Chiara Anicito, Giulia Lamarca and Andrea De Carlini, Angelica Massera, and protagonists of the world of entertainment, including Artem Tkachuk of Mare Fuori.
The IV Edition of the General States of Natality will have the media partnership of Rai.
