The Friulian Tecnest digitizes the production processes of the Piedmontese Ser

The partnership between the Piedmontese giant and the Friulian technological company is underway for the digitalisation of production processes within the Santena company

UDINE – Partnership between the Piedmontese giant Ser Spa and the Friulian technological company Tecnest for the digitalisation of production processes within the Santena company. Announcements are not always followed by feedback on the effects of major investments on the technology inserted into companies and production processes, often with a radical change of approach in the name of integrated and innovative management. Therefore, the balance sheet that the Piedmontese company Ser, located in Santena in the province of Turin and active in the chemical sector for the production of scented candles with a turnover of 200 million and European leadership, makes of the important reorganization of the production systems with focus on the planning of the candle sector carried out just over 10 years ago, in 2013, having as technological partner the Friulian company Tecnest, which has been committed to providing integrated solutions for factories in transformation for 37 years and is now projected towards the manufacturing of the future< /strong>, hyperconnected, 50 and with AI applications.

A decade of complete satisfaction, summarizes the Piedmontese company, because the innovations introduced then, and continuously updated, have allowed the three fundamental parameters for a chemical company to always be kept high: efficiency, flexibility and punctuality. Furthermore, it was possible to address a market in constant transformation. In essence, a decade ago Ser, through the project conducted by Tecnest, abandoned manual planning tools for digital and automated systems, doubling the turnover of the candle sector over the years.

But what were the interventions that allowed this path and which are necessary today in every company that intends to remain competitive and in particular in the chemical sector, where the punctuality of each process is fundamental? “Working in planning in an automated way and from a simulation perspective, finding the most suitable scenario for your production needs, generating a reactive and always on-time production plan, represents not only a competitive advantage in terms of level of service to the end customer, but a truly innovative approach to planning – says Fabio Pettarin, president of Tecnest – A correct analysis of material needs, combined with precise and automatic scheduling, leads the company to work with greater precision, respecting delivery dates and minimizing delays and waste even in production. This in turn also produces positive effects across the board, improving, for example, communication between the planning office, sales office and customer service thanks to joint visibility on the production plan”.

For the chemical industry, therefore, today an approach at the level of integrated information systems with automatic planning and scheduling logics is strategic to optimize needs, machine setups and guarantee adequate timing up to production control. At Ser all this was possible “thanks to the foresight of the decision makers and the collaboration of the team of planners and consultants who have always worked side by side to satisfy production needs in the long term. Eleven years later – concludes Pettarin – we look at the future with a view to continuous improvement and preparing ourselves to face all the challenges of the 5.0 transition”.
