ROME – Taxi drivers who are not on strike stopped anyway. An alternative, prudential abstention from work. Because otherwise “threats, attacks” are down. And so “we prefer not to work and do car maintenance or car tax”, to avoid retaliation. Yesterday a strange taxi strike against the pro-taxi government. 3570 of Rome did not join. But Loreno Bittarelli, the president of the cooperative, a Repubblica explains the hard life from the anti-corporation taxi driver: “In the past, it happened twice in the past that our taxi drivers were attacked and threatened by colleagues who damaged our vehicles. It has now become a habit.”
“The strike was against the government, against Uber and against me because through the ItTaxi app I managed to find a point of balance with multinationals, satisfying Uber, taxi drivers and users. This should be a model for the regulation of platforms”, says Bittarelli. Colleagues “are protesting against a draft implementing decree that they have not seen and which is still susceptible to possible corrections. Absurdly, they say nothing against the new licenses”.
“We have had a fixed tariff for 13 years. It’s absurd for the unions to go on strike against something that doesn’t exist but they don’t talk about the tariff.”
