THE PRESIDENT CASTELLITTO: “WE OFFER A HOME FOR ARTISTS OF THE WAR ZONES”

The word ‘diaspora’ means ‘dispersion’ and ‘dissemination’, and is often suffered by all those who find themselves in countries at war: but in reality every true artist at least once in life he felt abandoned and isolated even in his own country. The word diaspora has Greek origins, it means dispersing a people, uprooting an individual, a soul suffered a similar affront. Which is always a laceration. We then asked ourselves where those filmmakers, artists, writers were, divided and reseeded elsewhere. We decided to offer them a place, this place, the Experimental Center Cinematography, which for three days becomes a common home where they can gather what has been lost of their ideas, their projects and their frustrations. Recompose the diaspora of artists. We offer a screen to show their works and a microphone to talk about it. Between two fronts there is always a no man’s land, a deserted strip, inhabited by fear but also by desire. We want to occupy this land, so that it becomes a place of human meditation, in the same open field where art, by its habit, meets the dream”, commented the president of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia Sergio Castellitto.

DIASPORA DE ARTISTS IN WAR, THE PROGRAM

In presenting the program, Edoardo Albinati and Sergio Castellitto conversed for more than an hour on the importance of cinema as testimony, on the use of vision as a tool to give shape to pain and the world, on contemporary wars that are often civil wars where the tormentor may be your neighbor. “I found the program very interesting and I was very struck by the statements of filmmakers from all over the world: from Ukraine to Congo, from Chad to Syria”, commented Albinati.

The first day,June 19, is dedicated to the ‘Diaspora of filmmakers’. Introducing the public into the ‘heart’ of the event will be Khali Joreige, Maryna Er Gorbach and Mehmet Er, Saeed Al Batal, Michel Khleifi, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Hala Alabdalla, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, David Grossman.

Furthermore, during the event the exhibition ‘Diaspora delle donne’ will be set upcurated by Antonella Felicioni: an exhibition itinerary that opens with Anna Magnani and Sophia Loren, accompanied by directors of the caliber ofLina Wertmüller and Liliana Cavani, continuing with Claudia Cardinale and concluding with a constellation of actresses such as Rosanna Schiaffino, Giovanna Ralli, Lucia Bosè, Clara Calamai, Gina Lollobrigida and Silvana Mangano. The exhibition celebrates the roles that women are forcefully called to interpret, and photographs the contexts, feelings, choices, wars beyond any judgement.

During the three days, pupils and students will be involved in the creation of a testimonial film, assisted by the teachers, which will recount all the meetings and salient moments, while the students of the CSC Acting course will be engaged in the reading and interpretation, in a special space, of prose and poetry texts linked to the themes and countries of the works scheduled in Diaspora.
