The diva Sharon Stone will arrive in Italy

The Hollywood diva at the 70th edition of the Taormina Film Festival will receive the golden Charybdis for Lifetime Achievement on the closing night

ROME – Sharon Stone will illuminate the closing evening of the 70th edition of the Taormina Film Festival which will dedicate to her the Golden Charybdis for Lifetime Achievement, the glorious honor that over the years it was awarded to the elite of Italian and international cinema, to talents such as Jessica Lange, Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise, Sofia Loren, Nicole Kidman, Richard Gere, Colin Firth, Isabelle Huppert, Gina Lollobrigida, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi, Alberto Sordi , Monica Vitti, just to name a few.

The American actress and producer will meet the press and the public for a conversation about how she has redefined the concept of what it means to be a woman on the big screen, becoming a global cultural icon over the decades. Sharon Stone’s presence at the Taormina Film Festival – with the consultancy of Marco Fallanca – marks her first participation in the festival, which hosted the Italian premiere of ‘Basic Instinct’ in 1992.

After making his debut in 1980 with a cult cameo in Woody Allen’s ‘Stardust Memories’, Stone found his undisputed global consecration during the 1990s with films such as ‘Total Recall’, in which he starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and above all with the iconic role of Catherine Tramell in Paul Verhoeven’s ‘Basic Instinct’, in Phillip Noyce’s thriller ‘Sliver’, in the western ‘The Quick and the Dead’ alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and in Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece ‘Casino’, for for which she received a Golden Globe for best actress and an Oscar nomination.

She continues to work in film and TV over the years, obtaining two Golden Globe nominations for best supporting actress for ‘Just Look at the Sky’ by Peter Chelsom in 1999 and in 2000 for ‘The Goddess of Success’ by Albert Brooks, won a Primetime Emmy Award as outstanding guest actress in a drama series for ‘The Practice’ in 2004. In 2014 Stone was in the cast of the Italian film ‘A golden boy’, directed by Pupi Avati, and in the role of himself herself in the introduction of the fifth episode of Paolo Sorrentino’s series ‘The New Pope’.

Always committed to the issue of civil rights, Sharon Stone acted as spokesperson for amFAR, founded by Elizabeth Taylor to support research against AIDS, for almost 30 years. For her charitable projects around the world, she has been honored with a Nobel Peace Summit Award, a Harvard Humanitarian Award, a Human Rights Campaign Humanitarian Award and an Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award among many other accolades. In 2005 the actress was also awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France, in 2018 she received the Gold Medal of Merit of the Italian Red Cross and in 2021 she was appointed Commander of the Order of arts and letters still in France.
