ROME – An 11-year-old boy was hit by a bullet in the head after climbing over a garden fence to retrieve a ball. The child did not die “by pure luck”, say the authorities, because apparently the shot was fired from a compressed air weapon. It happened in Leyland, a town of 40,000 inhabitants in Lancashire, in England.

The boy was playing soccer with friends in the back garden of a house on Roadtrain Avenue when the ball went over a fence and he tried to retrieve it. They shot him. He was taken to Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, for emergency surgery. His life is not in danger.

Lancashire Police have launched an investigation to find the person responsible and have so far arrested a young, another minor.

The boy’s mother, interviewed from the Telegraph, says that “he is fine, considering he was shot in the head. One moment he was playing football and the next he collapsed to the ground. He spent three nights in Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool and There was a hole the size of a dime left, so he was lucky.”
