The case: in Tresignana, in the Ferrara area, voting returns for the run-off. But only due to an unusual, impossible and double coincidence

The two mayoral candidates will compete again on 23 and 24 June. And hopefully at least one voter will change his mind this time

BOLOGNA – Tresignana becomes a case in which numbers and chance make fun of its citizens (and voters). The small town located about twenty kilometers from Ferrara, in Emilia Romagna, born from the merger of the municipalities of Tresigallo and Formignana, with almost 7 thousand inhabitants, until today was known mostly to a “niche public”, lovers of rationalist architecture or as a location for photo shoots. Since yesterday, however, the day of counting for the municipal elections – not just the European ones – there is one more reason to hear about it. Tresignana is in fact one of the municipalities with less than 15,000 inhabitants that will go to the ballot on 23 and 24 June, but it is certainly the only one that contemplates a double unusual coincidence. In fact, not only do the two mayoral candidates have the same surname, Perelli, but they obtained exactly the same number of votes, 1,717.

Initially the Ministry of the Interior had assigned an extra vote to one of the two, Mirko Perelli, but the latest updates show that Perelli and his challenger, Laura Perelli strong> – outgoing mayor – got the same votes. For this reason, ultimately the voters of Tresignana – who were divided exactly according to the preferences granted to the two candidates – will have to return to the polls in just under two weeks. The hope is that next time at least one voter will change his mind.
