ROME – From Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May, in Sant’Oreste, a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome Capitale, we will celebrate ‘Bombing day’, a strong>historical re-enactment of the reconquest of Mount Soratte by the Anglo-American allies, with the bombing of 12 May 1944 against the Wehrmacht, the German armed forces, who had established their headquarters inside the bunker tunnels.
“The ‘Bombing Day’ – the mayor of Sant’Oreste, Gregory Paolucci, declared to the Dire Agency – is an event that we have been proposing since 2010. The bunker is now a museum curated by the citizens of municipality, thanks to an association of volunteers called ‘Bunker Soratte’. This year will be the eightieth anniversary of the bombing and, for the occasion, there will be the massive presence of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Carabinieri with stands, simulators and molecular dogs. During the events we will also present this year’s novelty, an electric train that will allow visits inside the galleries and which will start at the end of May. “.
The ‘Bombing Day’ program is rich and will start on Friday morning with a series of activities dedicated to local schools. The ‘Bombing fest’ is scheduled for Saturday evening in the historic center of Sant’Oreste , with foods from the Second World War and with particular German, Italian, English and American menus. “The event is not intended to be a re-enactment of the military events of the war – explains Paolucci – The message we want to send is educational and sharing of the events that occurred in our territory”.
The culmination of the event will be Sunday afternoon at 3.45pm, the time of the bombing, with a simulation of historical events. “There will be aerial passes with period livery – concludes the mayor of Sant’Oreste – which will shoot electric charges of corn starch. There will also be figures, around 150, with clothes from the Second World War, as well as means of transport originals”.
