The blessed of the Internet Carlo Acutis will be sainted. Who was he and what was the miracle

The Milanese student was recognized by the Church, despite his short life, as a model of Christian faith. Here is his miracle

ROME – The young ‘blessed of the Internet’ Carlo Acutis will be sainted. Pope Francis decided it. The 15-year-old student who died in 2006 from fulminant leukemia was beatified in 2020 by Bergoglio in Assisi where he rests in the Sanctuary of Spogliazione, a destination for endless pilgrimages. And it is precisely in one of these pilgrimages that one of the miracles occurred through intercession for which he will be named a saint.

The student born in 1991 in London, lived in via Ariosto in Milan, had been recognised by the Church, despite his short life, as a model of Christian faith. The Pontiff, in the apostolic exhortation ‘Christus vivit’, had proposed it to young people as amodel of holiness for the digital age.

THE MIRACLE OF CARLO

The miracle reported through the intercession of Carlo Acutis is Vatican News: “Among the many pilgrims at the tomb, on 8 July 2022, a Friday, there is also a woman, Liliana, from Costa Rica. She kneels, prays and leaves a letter, words of hope that envelop the worst anguish for a mother. Six days earlier, on July 2, her daughter fell off her bike in the night while returning to house in the center of Florence, where the girl has been studying since 2018. The news coming from the Careggi hospital is shocking. Very serious head trauma, craniotomy surgery, removal of the right occipital bone to reduce the pressure, almost zero hopes of surviving. That July 2nd, Liliana’s secretary began to pray to Blessed Carlo Acutis and on the 8th Liliana herself went to Assisi. hospital informs: Valeria started breathing spontaneously again, the following day she started moving again and partially speaking. From then on it is one of those cases in which medical protocols fall by the wayside. On 18 July the CT scan showed the bleeding had disappeared and on 11 August the girl was transferred for rehabilitation therapy, but after only a week it was clear that complete recovery was now just a step away. And on September 2, mother and daughter are back in Assisi at Carlo’s tomb to say their infinite thanks“.

“When one truly prays to the Lord, he is heard. Truly heaven is in action through Carlo”, said Carlo’s mother, Antonia Acutis who added: “For me Carlo was truly special, he was a school of life, the example that there really are saints, because I lived next to him, I was able to see in everyday life how he behaved, how he was, we realized that he was an extraordinary boy but I certainly would never have I thought that Jesus would take him away from me so soon. But God’s plans are always great. We accepted Carlo’s death, even if it was premature, we did it with faith and with the certainty that God always does all things the best”.
