ROME – “Today we sign the ordinance and tomorrow the bathing season starts”. According to the weather forecast, Labor Day will be marred by rain and thunderstorms, leaving zero hope for sunbathers, but in the meantime the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, in the last hours of sun and almost summer temperatures , wanted to see with his own eyes howAma vehicles are cleaning up the free beaches of Ostiafrom so-called littering (cigarette butts, small pieces of plastic, etc.)
From this year in fact, the Capitoline municipal waste management company will also take care of the cleaning of the ‘totally public’ beaches and the mayor of the capital, accompanied by the councilors Sabrina Alfonsi (Environment) and Tobia Zevi (Heritage), by the president of Municipality by the president and general manager of Ama, Daniele Pace and Alessandro Filippi, he was able to see both the machines that remove small waste from the beach (through a machine equipped with a screener) and those that level it.
“It’s a change of peace, not only because the new bathing season opens but because a new phase opens in which Rome deals with its extraordinary sea with greater commitment – said Gualtieri – Among the new activities this year is the assignment to Ama of the cleaning of the free beaches of the coast with means that allow the beach to be leveled and cleaned thoroughly and regularly there will be two interventions a week on approximately 20 km of coastline, i.e. the free beaches and the areas of Capocotta and Castelporziano. Ama is a great environmental operator that can have quality and quantity at the same time”.
Together with cleaning of the beaches there is the “Sea plan with which Ama strengthens its interventions on the Ostia seafront for the waste collection of non-domestic users, on the Rome-Lido stations and with a greater presence to have clean and welcoming coast and beaches”.
After the recent fire at the La Casetta factory “we are also here to reiterate that we are attentive, we are moving forward on the path of quality of services, care of our wonderful sea, legality , transparency – Gualtieri underlined. So we move forward with the tenders for beach concessions and with the awarding of kiosks The sea of Rome is a great resource and instead for too long it has been considered one thing local and instead must be a priority for the whole city. Many people do not know that Rome is a seaside city, which is on the sea. Now the capital can finally turn the page and embark on a path of redevelopment and relaunch of one of its most beautiful wonders too little appreciated and left to itself”.
Instead now “also through European funds and the pua we are aiming for a leap in quality in the redevelopment of our sea, with a very great attractiveness also because the sea of Rome is clean and is a jewel”, explains the mayor .
On the free beaches of Ostia “there will be no kiosks, while in Castel Porziano there is an ongoing project financing which allows continuity and therefore there is administration and care. It is a record. For too long it was thought that nothing could be changed otherwise the season would not start – concluded Gualtieri – and instead we have shown that it is possible to change and respect the deadlines”.
