The ministries of the Environment and Energy Security and of Infrastructure and Transport have sent the definitive text of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan to the European Commission. The Pniec confirms the objectives achieved in the first proposal transmitted in June 2023, in some cases even exceeding the community targets, in particular on renewable energy. The document reiterates that Italy will have to reach a power from renewable sources of 131 GigaWatts by 2030. The plan, then, provides for the first time, a specific section dedicated to nuclear power. According to the scenario hypotheses developed, fission and, in the long term, fusion could provide around 11% of the total electricity required by 2050, with a possible projection towards 22%. “Our country equips itself with a planning tool that traces our energy and climate path with great pragmatism, overcoming unrealistic approaches of the past”, said the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
“Never before has the need to continue along the ‘Iter’ path towards a future of clean, safe energy been evident and pressing in the face of very serious crises that attack peace and our security, including energy security. and virtually inexhaustible. This is the goal of the project towards nuclear fusion.” This was said by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, in France, on the occasion of the completion of the superconducting magnets of the world’s largest magnetic confinement nuclear fusion project, called ‘Iter-International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor’. Italy is a primary partner, with a contribution from the national supply chain (especially Italian companies and laboratories specialized in the production of high-tech components) worth 2 billion euros, out of the total 7 billion euros invested by the EU. “The contribution of our companies and the scientific contribution of our research institutions and universities represent great national pride” concluded the minister.
Innovative systems based on the action of bacteria and insects to transform the waste produced by astronauts into fertilizers to grow microgreens useful as fresh food in long-term space missions. This is what Enea has achieved as part of the ReBUS project to support life in space, financed by the Italian Space Agency, in which the National Research Council, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Thales Alenia Space Italia, Kayser Italia, Telespazio and the Universities of Rome Tor Vergata, Pavia and Federico II of Naples. These are real space techno-ecosystems capable of ensuring the optimal recycling of resources, allowing for increasingly autonomous management with respect to supplies from Earth. The aim is to guarantee the constant production of fresh food for astronauts and at the same time reduce waste and the costs of its disposal.
Auronzo di Cadore (Belluno) will host this year the National Hiking Week of the Italian Alpine Club, now in its 25th edition, scheduled from 11 to 15 September. The annual enrichment, exchange and socializing event on the paths includes 27 hiking (including via ferrata) and cycle hiking proposals in the surrounding mountains, Dolomite peaks that reach three thousand meters high, among the most loved by visitors to the mountain areas: from the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to Marmarole, from Sorapiss to Cristallo, from Paderno to Monte Piana and Cadini di Misurina. The individual excursions have different characteristics and difficulties and are aimed at all types of mountain users, including novice hikers, families with children, elderly people, people with disabilities.
