BOLOGNA – “With Chuck Berry’s riff andthe way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox”: it is with these words that Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, the other evening during the band’s concert at Glastonbury, surprisingly introduced to fans none other than the actor Michael J. Fox, who unexpectedly went on stage for a performance. The Back to the Future actor played two iconic songs with Coldplay, Humankind and Fix You, to the applause of the enthusiastic and moved audience. It happened during the concert on Friday 28 June at the Glastonbury Festival. After the touching performance, Chris Martin once again thrilled the audience by saying: “The main reason why we are a band is Back to the Future. So thank you to Michael, our hero.”

The video in which Michale J. Fox is seen arriving on stage has gone viral on social media. Shortly before announcing it, Chris Martin had paid tribute to Michael Eavis, the founder of the Glastonbury Festival, who was present at the concert.

Michael J. Fox has been suffering from Parkinson’s since 1991: he was diagnosed with the disease when he was 29 years old. However, the actor did not reveal it publicly immediately, but only after a few years. Today he is 63. On the Coldplay stage he was sitting in a wheelchair. It is not the first time he has taken to the stage with the English group: he also made an appearance during the 2016 North American tour and also previously in 2013 for a fundraiser for Parkinson’s research.
