Student from Pomigliano D’Arco wins the ‘Innovation: Done Award 2024’

The award was created with the aim of stimulating companies to invest in innovative technologies and methodologies

NAPLES –The first prize of the ‘Innovation: Done Award 2024’ was won by Alessio De Laurentis, a student at the Eugenio Barsanti Industrial Technical Institute of Pomigliano D’Arco (Naples) who > provides for the awarding of a scholarship of one thousand euros. The delivery took place during the third day of Wmd 2024 which took place in Naples, City of Science.

“The award, promoted by Wmd Academy, Manpower and the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Salerno – underlined Alfonso D’Aria, president of Wmd -, was born with the aim of stimulating companies to invest in innovative technologies and methodologies, triggering technological transfer processes, contributing to the transformation and growth of the Italian production sector through the awarding of scholarships intended for secondary school students “.

Vittorio Cappuccio, Regional Manager of Manpower Group and member of the jury, explains the criteria adopted by the evaluation commission: “We have chosen to reward talent combined with skills by financing scholarships intended for the young people who presented the three most deserving projectsThe students, with the help of teachers and school managers, managed to transform an idea into a working prototype, thanks to the skills acquired. during their studies. For us – added Cappuccio – it is extremely important to know the talent of the kids, to help them develop their skills and grow professionally together”.

“My project was born from my studies – said De Laurentis, visibly moved – when I managed to understand the importance and potential of automation in human life. My attention turned to to the material sorting sector, in particular I have created a conveyor belt capable of recognizing and discarding materials that are not metallicessential automation, for example, in the waste recycling industry, capable of reduce transport times, environmental impact, risks for humans and costs for companies. This result gives me confidence and I hope to be able to realize my passions in the future”.

In second place ex aequo, two scholarships of 500 euros were awarded, respectively to the students of the Don Geremia Piscopo Institute of Arzano (Domenico Ferrara, Matteo Giandomenico, Francesco Ferrara and Salvatore Arnone ) for the project on a suction system, and to the student of the Marie Curie Technical Institute of Naples (Cristian Cafiero), for a robotics project. “I designed a small robotic cell – explained Cafiero – exclusively using the Abb Robot Studio software, with three robots inside, two that deal with pick and place, that is, picking up objects and positioning them in the right place and another who is dedicated to welding. I will definitely continue on this training path, in fact, I am enrolled in the faculty of Automation Engineering. I believed in my project, having achieved second place is a great satisfaction “.

Erika Capasso, event manager of Wmd, expressed enthusiasm for the results obtained with the fifth edition: “Our goal is to bring out the excellence of Campania and enhance it on an international level< /strong>, creating a pool of skills capable of strengthening our presence on global markets. This year we hosted machine tools and the latest technological solutions for the digitalisation and automation of production processes”.
