THE WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT AT 11PM

The final evening of the 2024 Strega Prize will be broadcast live on Rai 3 at 11pm. The event is held (it has been this way since 1953) at the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome: hosted by Geppi Cucciari and Pino Strabioli.

The Prize will be assigned by a jury made up of the votes of the 400 Friends of Sunday, to which are added as usual 245 votes expressed by Italian and foreign scholars, translators and intellectuals selected by 35 Italian Institutes of culture abroad, 30 votes from strong readers chosen from the world of professions and entrepreneurship and 25 collective votes expressed by schools, universities and reading groups, including the clubs set up at the Libraries of Rome.

New to this edition will be the restoration of the live counting. The last one hundred votes will be scrutinized one by one until the winning author of the book is announced. Another novelty concerns the interviews with the authors of the sestina, usually hosted in the Ammannati loggia, which this year will take place on the proscenium, in favor of the audience.

This year too, the finalist authors, as they approached the final, were engaged in a busy Strega Tour, meeting readers in 18 stages, of including one abroad at the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels. The journey will continue for the winner of the LXXVIII edition, touching on July 7th Lonato del Garda, July 9th Rome (Literature Festival), July 21st the Villasimius Marina Festival, July 26th Vieste (Il Libro Possibile), July 3 August Marciana Marina, 8 August Cortina d’Ampezzo (A Mountain of Books), to then resume at the end of the month and conclude in autumn.
