ROME – Aldo Spinelli has spoken. He said “everything”. And everything revealed to the magistrates investigating the corruption of the so-called “Toti system” in Liguria goes from the minutes to the front pages of the newspapers in an instant. Drawing the context of incestuous affairs between political power and entrepreneurs.
For starters, Spinelli feels almost like a victim, “mocked” by the President of the Region who is also under house arrest. “I gave money to everyone, Toti promises things he isn’t able to keep“. For example, Toti emerges from the wiretaps and intercedes for the concession of the Punta dell’Olmo beach: “I’m having lunch with the Spinelli family. We need to find a solution for the Punta dell’Olmo beach”. This was followed by phone calls, intercessions, and a payment just an hour later.
Spinelli says he said “everything, everything. I think I deserve my freedom. Gentlemen? I helped him, he’s a friend and he was in difficulty, but I knew well that there was little he could do.” His son Roberto defends him: “My father was pulled by the jacket by everyone. Even by Toti and Signorini, who like others took advantage of him. I have great respect for him, he made himself alone, but for a few years I have no longer been able to follow him and I don’t agree with some things he has done alone”.
