ROME – ‘This debate should not be held’. After the stop by Agcom on the political confrontation between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the leader of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, scheduled for May 23rd at Porta a Porta, Bruno Vespa during the program ‘Five minutes’ he argued about the incident. The journalist, embittered, took a few pebbles off his feet by listing all the cases of the last twenty years in which equal conditions were not respected in Rai.
“There’s a lot of talk these days about a level playing field. And it’s talked about in such a careful, so punctual, even so exasperated way that the comparison between Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein has been skipped”, said Vespa at the beginning of the episode. “Saying no to a confrontation between two women leaders is not a victory for democracy.” “In the last two electoral rounds (2022/2024) it was not possible for us to broadcast comparisons between the Prime Minister (yesterday Letta, today Meloni) and the most representative leader of the opposition (yesterday Meloni, today Schlein). We were forbidden the confrontation between two women who for the first time in Italian history are at the top in their respective roles. I’m convinced of it
Vespa against the stop to the Meloni-Schlein confrontation: "We can’t bring each other together two women on quibbles. Pluralism? And are you coming to tell us? Let’s also measure the breaths” pic.twitter.com/5IyH9KIrI1

On the other hand, Barbara Floridia, president of the Rai supervisory commission, was satisfied and expressed her satisfaction with the cancellation of the Meloni-Schlein confrontation from Vespa: “The confrontation between the leaders is fundamental for the democratic debate, but the rules must be respected always and in any case. This is the role of a guarantee president and this is what I did”.
