ROME – Increase the sentence to 20 years in prison for those who protest in a threatening or violent manner against major structural works. This is the intent of the League’s amendment to the security bill, signed by Igor Iezzi and now being examined by the Constitutional Affairs commission of the Chamber. The denunciation of what is happening ‘quietly’ comes from Europa Verde spokesperson Angelo Bonelli.
“The League wants to send to prison those who protest against the bridge over the Strait of Messina. It is confirmation of the authoritarian and repressive turn towards those who dissent from the crazy policies of this government. The deputy of the Lega Iezzi presented an amendment to the security bill being discussed in the constitutional affairs commission, which introduces a new article of the penal code which punishes those who threaten to prevent the construction of a public work and strategic infrastructure. Making a flyer can be prosecuted according to this amendment”, explained the Avs deputy who continues: “The Iezzi amendment wants to intimidate the legitimate protest against the bridge and, if it were approved, prison terms of 4 to 20 yearsalso for anyone who, with images or symbolic acts, can threaten the blocking of infrastructure works. For those who protest, therefore, there is a triple penalty compared to corruption and other serious crimes such as robbery. We are in a true democratic emergency. The League, which with its minister Salvini has entrusted works worth over 15 billion euros without public tender, such as the bridge over the Strait of Messina and the breakwater in Genoa, and which does not has accepted the complaints of irregularities of the National Anti-Corruption Authority on the procedures adopted by the Ministry of Infrastructure, it wants to send those who protest to prison! There will be harsh opposition in parliament and in the country not only in relation to this law, but also against those who are devastating the territory with harmful works such as the bridge over the strait, while in Sicily one million people do not have access to drinking water due to the drought and the absence of interventions on the aqueducts”, he concludes.
