Sanremo, Rai is suing John Travolta for his shoes: asking for damages and a stop to the compensation

The Viale Mazzini company has initiated a civil action before the Civil Court of Rome against U-Power Group for breach of contract

ROME – Rai sued John Travolta over the dispute over the shoes worn by the actor during his performance at the Sanremo Festival, launching a civil action before the Court of Rome for < strong>contractual breach, unfair competition and contrary to the obligations of professional correctness. Travolta was asked for compensation for the damage suffered, including reputational damage, and payment of the entire contractual compensation for the performance was also suspended.
“Rai, immediately at the end of the Sanremo Festival, launched an internal audit from which it emerged that neither the employees nor the external collaborators of Rai were aware of the actor John Travolta’s intention to wear footwear with the ‘U-Power’ logo in order to unduly exploit the visibility offered by his performance”, said the CEO of Rai, Roberto Sergio, during the hearing in the Rai Parliamentary Supervisory Commission.

Sergio underlined that, “since it was a logo little known to the public, it was not recognized by the inspectors before entry. It should be added that the contract stipulated between Rai and the company Divina Luna Srl, which represents the actor, expressly provided, as do all contracts for artistic performances, the prohibition on introducing elements having directly or indirectly advertising or promotional value, also with reference to the clothing or accessories used, unless previously authorized by Rai in writing”.

The performance, the CEO noted, “was therefore carried out in clear violation of the signed agreement: to protect its interests, Rai initiated a civil action before the Civil Court of Rome against the company Divina Luna as well as U-Power Group for breach of contract, unfair competition, violation of the obligations of professional correctness pursuant to article 2598 of the Civil Code for compensation for damage, including reputational damage, suffered payment of the entire contractually foreseen compensationfor the performance of the artist John Travolta”, concluded Sergio.
