Sales ready to go, advice from Udicon: “The risk of fraud is always around the corner”

Six simple rules to avoid running into nasty surprises: spend consciously, without getting caught up in the heat

ROME – “The summer sales start next Saturday. An excellent saving opportunity for consumers, who can purchase products they have been eyeing for some time at a lower price. But the important thing is to maintain a critical and aware approach, without getting caught up in enthusiasm. The risk of fraud is always around the corner, which is why we need to carefully evaluate the real convenience of each purchase”. This was stated by Martina Donini, national president of Udicon (Consumer Defense Union).

Udicon has drawn up a list of simple rules to follow to make the most of the summer sales:

1. The receipt is your best ally, always remember to keep it. This document is essential not only for any exchanges, but also as proof of purchase in case of disputes. Even during sales, you have the right to change the products purchased, but the receipt will always be your guarantee.

2. Quality and seasonality of the products. Thegarments sold during the sales should be seasonal or fashion items. Pay attention to the quality and novelty of the products you are purchasing. A good deal isn’t a good deal if the item is out of season or of poor quality.

3. Exchange and return policies. Although the exchange and return policy is generally at the discretion of the retailer, there are protections for you, the consumer. In the event of defective products, you have the right to repair, replacement or reimbursement of the amount spent. Do not hesitate to assert your rights in these situations.

4. Test of garments: a matter of courtesy. Trying on clothing is not an obligation for the shopkeeper, but a possibility often granted out of courtesy. If you are denied a trial of an item, carefully consider the purchase. If in doubt, ask for detailed information on the policy adopted by the shopkeeper.

5. Electronic payments are a consumer right. Stores are required to accept credit card payments at no additional cost. This is your right, so do not hesitate to use the payment method you prefer.

6. Transparency in prices. Retailers have the obligation to clearly indicate the original price, the discount applied and the final price. Check the starting price if you have any doubts about the discount applied, paying attention to the tag with the sticker positioned above. This transparency allows you to effectively evaluate the convenience of the purchase. Pay attention to these instructions to avoid unpleasant surprises at the checkout.
