Russia-Ukraine war, Putin orders exercises with nuclear weapons

On Telegram, Russia's Defense Ministry announces "exercises" in view of the possible use of nuclear weapons. And he talks about responding to the "threats" of the West

ROME – Russia announces “exercises” in view of the possible use of nuclear weapons. Reason? As a response to the “provocations” and “threats” received from the West and in particular from “Western leaders”. The reference is to French President Emmanuel Macron, who in recent days had said he was open to sending troops to Ukraine. The British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, also spoke on the situation in Ukraine, defining as ‘admissible’ the possibility that Kiev’s armed forces would strike targets on Russian territory with British weapons.
The announcement comes from the Russian Ministry of Defense and travels through the Dicastery’s Telegram channel. It is relaunched by the Novosti website and other Moscow press agencies.

The operations, we read, will be held in the “southern military district” of the Federation. Participation of naval and air units is expected, we read in the text, “as soon as possible”.
It is “a response to the provocative statements and threatsuttered by specific Western leaders”: this is the motivation given by the Russian Ministry of Defense in announcing upcoming exercises in view of the possible use of “non-strategic” nuclear weapons.

WHAT ‘PROVOCATIONS’ DOES PUTIN RESPOND TO

The communication coming from Russia presumably responds to the words of President Emmanuel Macron, who claimed not to rule out the possibility of deploying French troops in Ukraine. Furthermore, last week the United Kingdom Foreign Minister, David Cameron, said that he considered it permissible for Kiev’s armed forces to strike targets on Russian territory with British weapons. The executive’s words concern military supplies worth three billion dollars that London is delivering to Ukraine.
