The Giants of the Mountain is the latest text by Luigi Pirandello. It is a work full of dreams, magic, visions, sounds, music and ghosts. A true arsenal of apparitions that reflects the full potential of the author’s creative imagination. But it is also an unfinished text in which Pirandello recounts his serious crisis as a man and actor. The show Il canto dei giganti, a project by and with Manuela Mandracchia and Fabio Cocifoglia on stage at the India theater from 2 to 12 May, takes borrowing the crisis of the author to tell the crisis of men and actors. It is a visionary and musical dream that arises from the intertwining of various texts by Pirandello (including the novellas Il Figlio Cambiato and Conversations with Characters, the theatrical text The Giants of the Mountain, the libretto of the opera The tale of the changed son).

A DREAM-STORY

It is a sonic journey entrusted to the special musical wisdom of Mario Crispi, Mario Rivera and Chiara Minaldi who rework the Sicilian and Mediterranean musical tradition with electronic music. It is a dreamlike story that develops through the poignant and very human photographs of Letizia Battaglia and Shobha and the precious video contributions of Pippo Zimmardi, born from a theater workshop held in the Real Casa dei Matti in Palermo. At the center of the story is a company of actors and musicians who are rehearsing The Tale of the Changed Son. There is a writer in the midst of a crisis who would like to resign from everything and an actress obsessed with the idea that poetry can save the world. And then the Scalognati: a court of miracles, pure women and men, marked in body and mind, very poetic outcasts, changed children, who force us to deal with our deformed and crazy side.
