Rome, Palazzo Braschi celebrates Matteotti: on Monday 10 June the exhibition will be free

On the day of the centenary of his assassination, guided tours of the exhibition

Extraordinary opening of the exhibition ‘Giacomo Matteotti. Life and death of a father of democracy’, hosted at the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi, next Monday 10 June, the day on which the centenary (1924-2024) of his assassination occurs. Throughout the day, from 10am to 7pm, entry to the exhibition will be free. For the occasion, at 11am the curator of the exhibition Mauro Canali will lead a special guided tour, while further guided tours are scheduled for 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
Inaugurated last March 1st and open to the public until 16 June, the exhibition retraces the human and political path of the socialist leader, deputy and secretary of the Socialist Unity Party (PSU), from his youthful beginnings to his national affirmation, from the battles for democracy to the opposition to fascism, whose totalitarian nature he was among the first to understand, until the brutal murder perpetrated by the Mussolini regime.

Strengthened by the authority of the institutions involved and rich in unpublished materials, the exhibition includes original documents – with particular reference to the investigative and judicial documents, never shown before, which substantiate the interpretative process – including photographs, manuscripts, objects, vintage books, newspaper and magazine articles, films and documentaries, works of art, sculptures, ceramics, paintings, as well as musical pieces dedicated to the political leader.

The exhibition, promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, curated by Mauro Canali with the direction and general coordination of Alessandro Nicosia, is organized and created by Cor Create Organize Create with the cultural association Costruire Cultura, with the organizational support of Zètema Progetto Cultura, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, with the presence of Banca Ifis as main partner, with the contribution of the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the participation of Archivio Storico Luce, Rai Teche, Fondazione Pietro Nenni and Aamod – Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement.
